Don’t Make This Common Mistake With Your Eyes This Fall…

Autumn is almost here! It’s a beautiful time of year and there’s a lot of fun things that come with it. But there’s absolutely one thing you should avoid this Fall…

…

Touching your eyes! What, you thought it would be more exciting than that? Listen, we could ramble on about pumpkin spice, apples, and pretty leaves all day, but we’re an eye clinic! 😉

Seriously though, it’s good to avoid touching your eyes pretty much all year, but especially during the late summer and early Fall. It’s a common habit, but there are a few reasons to avoid it:

A road winding through a mountain covered in trees with autumn leaves.

1) Kids are going back to school. Campus life is back in full swing. Sports are kicking into gear. Suddenly everyone is back in larger groups again and getting exposed to different kinds of bacteria.

Your hands will come into contact with a variety of objects touched by other people throughout a given day, and any rubbing of your eyes will bring germs and infections straight into your system.

We’re not just talking about COVID here. This can also be colds, the flu, strep throat, and any other illnesses. Wash your hands frequently and avoid rubbing your eyes and you’ll improve your chances of staying healthy.

2) Allergies are awful this time of year. You may feel like rubbing your eyes is helpful, but in reality, it causes your body to release more histamines and only aggravate the symptoms.

If your eyes are itchy and dry because of allergies, use eye drops instead of rubbing them. If the standard drops you’d find at a store aren’t good enough, your eye doctor might be able to prescribe you a better alternative.
